Gitarist Csaba Toth Bagi is al vanaf zijn tienerjaren een begrip in de Hongaarse muziekscene, bekend om zijn soulvolle en technisch briljante gitaarspel. Zijn blues- en jazzstijl is sterk beïnvloed door zijn Hongaarse afkomst en zijn jarenlange internationale tournees met oa de gitarist Al Di Meola.
Hij groeide op in Servië, zijn familie, bestaande uit muzikanten, vestigde zich in 1993 in Zuid-Hongarije tijdens de Joegoslavische oorlog. Zijn vader begon hem op 6-jarige leeftijd pianoles te geven, op 12-jarige leeftijd gaf hij de voorkeur aan de gitaar.
Op 16-jarige leeftijd nam Csaba zijn eerste bluesalbum "Crazy Clock" (1997) op. Het album kreeg veel bijval van Europese critici, die hem omschreven als de Hongaarse Gary Moore.
In 2012 bracht hij met zijn band Balkan Union het album 'Aved Ivenda' uit met originele jazz-composities gebaseerd op traditionele Macedonische, Servische en Hongaarse melodieën en ritmes.
Mei 2017 brengt Csaba Toth Bagi's Balkan Union zijn tweede album uit met Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Fausto Beccalossi, Rhani Krija, Tina Guo, Ismail Lumanovski, Christiane Karam en meer.
Guitarist and singer Csaba Toth Bagi has been a fixture of the Hungarian music scene since his teenage years, well known for his powerful voice and his soulful and technically brilliant guitar playing. His rootsy blues and jazz style is greatly influenced by his Balkan upbringing, his Hungarian musical education and his years touring internationally with renowned guitarist Al Di Meola.
Growing up in Serbia, his family, consisting of musicians, settled in southern Hungary in 1993 during the Yugoslav war. His father started giving him piano lessons at the age of 6, at the age of 12 he preferred the guitar.
At the age of 16 Csaba recorded his first blues album "Crazy Clock" (1997). The album received wide acclaim from European critics, who described him as Hungarian Gary Moore.
In 2012 Csaba Toth Bagi Balkan Union has released “Aved Ivenda” of original compositions combining traditional Macedonian, Serbian and Hungarian melodies and rhythms into a jazz structure.
Csaba Toth Bagi Balkan Union has recently finished their second album featuring Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Fausto Beccalossi, Rhani Krija, Tina Guo, Ismail Lumanovski, Christiane Karam and more. The album will be released in May 2017 by Enja Records.
